Made in China.
Our China trip was in October. The name China comes from the word Qin Dynasty. The word "China" also brings to mind all the toys we played with during childhood!!
Beijing looked like any other modern cities in the world with huge skyscrapers and flyovers.Roads are extremely good with voxwagon cars all over the place
The Great Wall of China. The wall that we see today was built mainly in the Ming dynasty. It starts from Hushan Great Wall in the east to Jiayuguan Pass in the west traversing Liaoning, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Gansu and Qinghai. The part that we saw was Badaling section. It is 43 miles north of Beijing and is one of the best preserved parts of the wall.
Beautiful Xian
This place is famous for the terracota army. The army is in a battle formation and include cavalry, infantry and charioteers.Qin Shi Huang is the founder of the Qin Dynasty. He started building the great wall.In preparation for his death he built a replica of his kingdom underground and he was finally laid to rest in the underground palace at its centre. It took over 720 000 people, 37 years to build.
Small Wild Goose Pagoda Xian
Maglav train in Shanghai.
Scintilating Shanghai.
Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai.
The Jade Buddha Temple is probably the most famous temple in Shanghai and will be printed on every hotel card destination listing. While the complex is small, it is interesting to wander through and has a number of halls to stop and peek in: Hall of Heavenly Kings, Great Treasure Hall and 10,000 Buddhas Hall. The centerpiece is, of course, the jade Buddha located in its own hall (extra 10rmb entry) at the back of the complex. Totter up the well-worn stairs to have a look at the nearly 5 foot (1.9m) tall pale-green Burmese jade likeness
JIng'An Temple.
It has a long history, originally built in the 3rd century, it was moved to its present site in the Song Dynasty, destroyed in 1851, rebuilt, turned into a plastics factory during the Cultural Revolution and renovated back into a temple in 1983. It is undergoing constant renovation but its Song Dynasty architecture is beautiful and the temple is popular with tourists and practicing Buddhists alike.
From Shanghai we took a day trip to Suzhou.Suzhou is often dubbed as the Venice of the east or Venice of China. It is famous for its classical gardens. We visited one such garden called the Humble Administrator's garden. It was beautiful.
The last city we visited was Kumning. Kumning is the capital of Yunnan province.
Kumning is know for its stone forest. It is also know as the first wonder of the world. Geologists say the Stone Forest is a typical example of karsts topography. Approximately 270 million years ago - during the carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era - the region was a vast expanse of sea. Over time, the movements of the lithosphere gradually caused a retreat of the waters and the rise of the limestone landscape. Due to constant erosion by the elements, the area finally developed into the present-day Stone Forest.
The Stone Forest area is the home of the Sani minority, a branch of the Yi tribe (reputed for their diligence, valour, wisdom, exquisite embroidery and melodious songs and graceful dances) who also offer cultural performances nightly.
